Project 333 – Wearing just 33 items over 3 months.
The Basics (from the Project 333 website):
- When: Every three months (It’s never too late to start so join in anytime!)
- What: 33 items including clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.
- What not: these items are not counted as part of the 33 items – wedding ring or another sentimental piece of jewelry that you never take off, underwear, sleep wear, in-home lounge wear, and workout clothing (you can only wear your workout clothing to workout)
- How: Choose your 33 items, box up the remainder of your fashion statement, seal it with tape and put it out of sight.
- What else: consider that you are creating a wardrobe that you can live, work and play in for three months. Remember that this is not a project in suffering. If your clothes don’t fit or are in poor condition, replace them.
I came across Project 333 a little over a month ago and was quite intrigued by just wearing 33 items.
Since I already had a small fall and winter wardrobe, I didn’t think it would be too difficult to pare down to just 33 items. However, factoring in shoes, accessories and outerwear into that figure of 33 quickly made it a bit of a challenge.
I ended up taking everything out of my closet (shoes, outerwear, clothing and accessories) and laid it all out on my bed and then began picking out my favorite items and the pieces I wear with my favorites. After 30 minutes of ‘shopping’ my own things, I had a 33 piece wardrobe hanging in my closet.
While I haven’t exactly completed Project 333 since 3 months have not passed yet, it’s changing my ideas about my wardrobe. I really think a 30-35 piece wardrobe is more than enough for me. (This mindset will save me a lot of money when it comes to purchasing spring/summer clothing!)
Over these past weeks, I’ve been completely content with everything in my closet, never worrying about what I’m going to wear.

Have you ever participated in Project 333? Does Project 333 seem like a fun challenge?
I am curious…..why are a few of your hangers facing the other way?
When I started, I turned them all around just to see what I wore. The things I haven't wore so far are a pair of black dress pants, a red polka dot dress and a black short sleeve tee! The dress and tee will be worn often once the weather warms up.
I have looked at this project a few times and decided it's not for me. My work clothes and accessories would take up at least 7 'slots' and then I need outfits for different social occasions. If work clothes were excluded (which I can't really wear elsewhere as my suits look too much like business suits) I might have a go.
I am a big believer in having a small wardrobe of good quality items though. I have a Parisian friend who has the stereotypical French capsule wardrobe and she puts together so many outfits from a small selection of quality clothes and accessories. I love getting style books out of the library as they inspire me to buy quality not quantity.
I definitely don't think it's for everyone. I'm in a perfect situation to make it easy since I am a stay at home mama and don't have to worry about dressing professionally! It sounds like you have a great wardrobe, choosing quality over quantity.
I disagree, I think everyone can attempt the challenge no matter their work area. Check out Travel Fashion Girl Business Trip packing list filled with what I might say is "power" clothes. As Laura mentioned, we can do "many outfits from a small selection of " whatever your style is 😉

I started out with a 12 piece wardrobe, but I had to expand it, and add sweaters and dress pants for the winter. There's something about being warm and cozy–even if you can't wear the clothes all year. I notice that you have lots of sweaters in your wardrobe as well!
Wow…12 pieces! How long did you have such a tiny wardrobe? And, yes, I love being warm and cozy!
I'm currently ready Jen Hatmaker's "An experimental mutiny against excess". She wore only 7 items for a month!!!! I like this idea of 33 items and believe it is totally doable.
I've heard so much about that book, I hope to read it soon. Compared to just 7 items, 33 seems like a massive wardrobe, doesn't it?!
I think you should do a post on natural beauty. I find myself watching a lot of You Tube videos on applying makeup and I have fun with it, but it's starting to take up too much time, and then I feel naked if I don't wear a lot of makeup. You always look very natural and pretty. What is your routine?
Thank you! I'm not a big make up girl at all. Honestly, I don't even wash my face with face soap. About a year or so ago, I did some reading on the oil cleansing method: <a href="http:// (http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/)” target=”_blank”> <a href="http://(http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/)” target=”_blank”>(http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/). I then decided to do a little experiment and just wash my face with warm water to see what would happen. I couldn't tell much difference from using the facewash I was using. I feel like my face is clean and haven't had many breakout issues (I have had a few but I'm pretty sure they can all be blamed on hormonal issues!) I don't regularly wear makeup and when I do, I just use a little moisturizer, concealer and powder, super simple! I would wear mascara but it irritates my eyes. Hope this answers your questions!
I am a shopaholic, like many girls of my age, but I don’t like spending the entire day in the exploring the local market to buy the best suited dresses under my budget. Rather, I like shopping online at ‘Stylewe’, one of my favourite online stores, because it helps looking at the wide variety of sweater dresses, without moving out of my comfort zone.
This is a good post. This post give truly quality information. I'm definitely going to look into it.Really very useful tips are provided here. thank you so much. Keep up the good works.
I got curious of what are those 333 items you have there that you really have counted it and of all the numbers why 333? is there a significance in it or just a number that can increase or decrease at any time? fabulousafter40.com/how-do-i-cover-flabby-arms/
