Packing Light

A couple weeks ago, I shared about my small fall and winter wardrobe and how versatile a small wardrobe can be if you have coordinating items.

While packing for a recent 5 day trip, I thought it would be fun to use the clothes I shared about in the 8 clothing items, 13 outfits post. I pulled out those 8 items and added in a shirt, an extra pair of jeans and a necklace, bringing my total pieces to 11.

I wore 3 of the pieces on day one as I traveled and packed the others in a small bag along with underclothes, pajamas and toiletries.

The 11 pieces:

Tops- Striped Thermal Tee, Black Tee, Paisley Dress, Grey Sweater

Bottoms- Teal Skinnies, Skinny Jeans, Jeans, Black Tights

Accessories/Shoes- Black Boots {not pictured}, Teal Scarf, Red Necklace

Outfits:

Day 1: Striped Thermal Tee, Teal Skinnies & Boots

Day 2: Black Tee, Jeans, Red Necklace & Boots

Day 3: Black Tee, Skinny Jeans, Teal Scarf & Boots

Day 4: Paisley Dress, Black Tights, Teal Scarf & Boots

Day 5: Grey Sweater, Skinny Jeans & Boots

I must admit, I was a bit nervous packing so little but at the same time excited that I could go away for a few days with so few personal items. It did help that I was going to visit family and had easy access to a washer and dryer, making it easier to wear the same things.

Packing light made packing and getting dressed each day simple. I’ll be packing light from here on out! {Now, I just have to start packing light for the boys…}

Do you pack light or do you tend to overpack?

  1. I have been doing this lately while traveling. We went on a 10 day trip to Vegas/Grand Canyon for our 5 year anniversary back in May. I brought with me only 2 pairs of capris, 4 short-sleeved shirts, 1 fleece pullover, 1 pair of PJ's, and 4 sets of delicates. I was washing delicates in the bathroom of our hotel and we went to the laundromat a couple of times. (We are OK with wearing clothes twice before washing as long as we're not hot and sweaty.) There were no checked bags for either of us on the trip.

Also, I went to Florida for 4 days in October (ended up being 5 days because of superstorm Sandy) with 2 pairs of capris, 4 shirts and PJ's (one pair of shoes). It is so much easier to mix and match than to struggle with trying to carry-on a large suitcase onto the plane. My suitcase was nice and manageable. I prefer traveling that way.

  2. I'm a very light packer too. I have a (mostly) capsule wardrobe where everything goes with everything so it's easy to pull together outfits. I actually like my clothes more now that my closet isn't bursting with things I never wear. Every item serves a purpose.

  3. Hope you will enjoy your trip and make some beautiful memories with your whole family. I just like this update on your website and your dresses looks good and they suites you. Everyone must plan for the best resume writing services 2017 trip in winter or summer season to have fun together.
