Baby K’tan

In the 2 years since I’ve been a mama, I’ve tried out several different types of baby carriers from wraps and pocket slings to ring slings and structured carriers. When Weston was on the way, I knew I’d be wearing him frequently, both at home as well as to church and for running errands. I was right, I wore Weston more in the first 2 months of his life than I ever wore Paxton!

My favorite carrier for babies from birth to about 6 months is the Baby K’tan. It’s a wrap style carrier without the wrapping. The Baby K’tan is very easy to put on, has several different holds and is very comfortable since the weight of the baby is distributed evenly across both shoulders {unless you’re holding your baby in a hip position.}

I had never heard of Baby K’tan until this past fall when I was browsing a local children’s resale store and found one. It was $9.99 and I figured I’d give it a try and see if I liked it. When Weston was 2 weeks old, after trying to get comfortable wearing the ring sling, I pulled out my secondhand K’tan and found out I loved it. It ended up being a little too large so I purchased a new one and sold my wrap and sling.

From the Baby K’tan website:

“The Baby K’tan Baby Carrier is a uniquely designed soft cotton carrier. It can be worn in all the same positions as a wrap, without the hassle of wrapping! The K’tan is made of two loops of cotton which are connected by a third smaller loop called the Back Support Band. This ergonomic and stylish design allows the carrier to be worn in multiple positions, all without any complicated wrapping or buckling. It is a cross between a sling and a structured front baby carrier, offering the positions and benefits of both!”

I was a bit intimidated by the carrier at first but after reading through the instruction booklet and practicing with one of the boys’ teddy bears, I quickly learned how to use it! It’s the easiest carrier I’ve used in regards to putting it on and getting the baby situated comfortably.

The only drawback to this carrier, in my opinion, is the fact that it is a sized carrier. My K’tan is too small for my husband to wear. Of course this is not a huge issue for us since I’m the one who wears our babies when they’re tiny!

The Baby K’tan comes in several different colors and starts at $49.95 (worth every single penny in my opinion!) There is also a Baby K’tan Breeze which is 50% cotton and 50% mesh reducing heat and moisture – perfect for babywearing in the hot summer months!

Since I loved our Baby K’tan, I knew having a Breeze would be good for the hot southern summer. I was right, it’s cooler to use the Breeze! It’s so easy to put Weston in the K’tan with a hip carry to go outside and play with Paxton or watch daddy and Paxton swimming.

I’ve been asked frequently what carrier I recommend and for small babies, it’s a Baby K’tan. If you have a fall/winter baby, I suggest a regular one and for spring/summer babies, I’d definitely go with the Breeze.

Do you wear your babies? What’s your favorite carrier? Do you own a Baby K’tan?

  1. The K'Tan Breeze looks really nice for summer since it has been SO HOT outside! I too have a big baby who loves to be carried around. Since he is our first baby we were gifted and borrowed 3 carriers (yes three). We were given a MOBY, which I unfortunately only wore about four times, my baby didn't really like it all that much so I am trying to resell it! We purchased an Infantino Mei Tai Carrier which is very affordable and easy to wrap. My parents gifted us a Performance ERGO carrier which my baby enjoys (but only when carried on the hip and back). Our friends let us borrow a Baby Bjorn which is my baby's favorite carrier since he can face front and be super nosey! So as you can see we currently have a bit too many carriers around.

    1. The Breeze is nice for summer! I've had several different carriers with my two boys, you sometimes have to try several out to see what works best for you and baby! My favorites are the Baby K'tan and the Ergo!

  2. This is looking very comfortable. Good for very small baby. Well, A lot of parents dislike padded slings simply because they feel padding creates the sling too heavy, and keeps the actual sling from getting adjusted very tightly since the padding won't move through the rings. I am using hug a bub sling for my baby.
